The Punjab Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) is a statutory body that is mandated to monitor the government’s initiatives, assess implementation of pro-women policies, recommend changes to the requisite department, review and recommend amendments to laws, policies and programs along with promote gender equality under national law and international covenants. PCSW is also assigned to steer research to generate information with strategic actions for women empowerment. The Commission has the power to call upon departments for information and data collection. In this regard, the Gender Management Information System and the Punjab Women’s Helpline 1043 - are two major functional arms of the Commission.
