Women CAUCUS, from trained women councilors of divisional headquarters, will be formed after capacity building training of women councilors at divisional HQs of the province.The idea behind the concept is that if these elected women councilors are enlightened about PWEIs, this step can go a long way in the attainment of the ultimate goals of gender equality legal and empowerment of women. Women CAUCUS can play a bridging role between the common women, an important segment of the general public, and the government. Moreover, they can assist women not only in resolving their fundamental issues at their door steps, but existing opportunities and rights can be grabbed systematically.
Whereas, under the training of this Scheme 2606 lady councilors have been trained at 9 divisional across Punjab regarding awareness about their legal and social rights.
Enlisted below are the prime objectives of the project:
- To uplift the women empowerment in Punjab through capacity building women caucus at local Government level.
- Dissemination of announced initiatives by Government at grass root level through women caucus;
- Getting emancipation from stereotypes /taboos of women’s status in the society.
- Training sessions on the women empowerment initiatives of the government to be conducted at 9 divisional headquarters across Punjab.
Women are not well aware about their legal and social rights. The capacity building training may be proven as a beneficial tool to intervene the desired initiatives at the general public to break stereotypes about women’s status in the society to achieve targets set forth in the “Sustainable Development Goals ”especially Goal#05 i.e. “Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls “and Portfolio alignment to contribute towards. Growth strategy pillars and targets based on guidelines for formulation of ADP 2017-18”Particularly Section 3(iv) i.e. “Enhance gender empowerment “which ultimately leads to gender equality and women empowerment.
Women councilors can be used as useful/economical source to pass on the information about initiatives of the Punjab Government to maintain gender balance in the society.
