Session on climate change & gender equality

Women Development Department (WDD) in collaboration with the Environment Protection Department (EPD), hosted a consultative session on December 27th, 2023. This session brought together key government departments, including Higher Education, Health, Irrigation, Punjab Transport, Social Welfare & Baitul Mal, Livestock & Dairy Development, Local Government, Energy, Industries, Commerce and Investment, Housing Urban Development & Public Health Engineering Department, Labour, Human Rights, Agriculture, Forest, Ravi Urban Development Authority, Chairpersons Gender Studies Departments from PU and LCWU and many other notables from academia. Additionally, provincial focal persons from NGOs such as Aurat Foundation, UNFPA and UN Women also actively participated.

This consultative session aimed to deepen the understanding of how climate change uniquely impacted women. The event sought to integrate gender analysis into climate change policy discussions and decision-making processes. The Secretary Women Development Department emphasized the need to align policies in the light of international agreements and commitments related to gender equality and climate action.
