Ms Sumaira Samad, Secretary, Women Development Department (WDD) addressed a consultative session titled 'UNITE! Invest to Prevent Violence Against Women and Girls.' This session, held on December 5th, 2023, at Faletti's Hotel Lahore, organized by the British Council’s Awaz-II program in coordination with the Peace & Justice Network (PJN). The Secretary underscored the recent initiatives taken by the Punjab government to address violence against women and girls. She emphasized the crucial role of civil society in combating gender-based violence.
She also shared that the Chief Minister has constituted a provincial-level committee to deeply address the issues of violence against women and girls.The Secretary commended the efforts of all government departments in providing active support to victims of violence and appreciated the Awaz-II team for their role in raising awareness within local communities.
